Regarding the Killer Whale killing the trainer...
andreaallen: I think we had all the warning we needed. It’s a Killer Whale. Similarly, you can’t act surprised when “Crazy Kathy” does something insane. We all know Kathy is nuts because her name is Crazy Kathy. What’s more shocking to me was that “Shamu” is actually a stage name, a nickname they give to whichever killer whale happens to be on duty that day. I feel like...

Thursday Hate: Sending links as email subjects
Is it really that much of a pain to paste a link in your email’s body rather than the subject? Surely not! The effort it takes to type a quick description in the subject and paste a link in the body is exactly the same as doing the reverse. So why do people do this? I do not know of any email program out there lets you click a link that’s the subject of an email. Not Gmail, not...

Why so Syria? A new start to relations with...
Rafiq Hariri was the Prime Minister of Lebanon from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2000 to 2004. As politician and business tycoon, Hariri was responsible for reconstructing Beirut after the 15-year civil war, but in so doing he created a climate of corruption that crippled the Lebanese economy, with public debt rising 16 times as growth slowed to a halt. He resigned his post as Prime Minister in...

Don't like what's on TV? Shut down the network!
The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a bill aimed at shutting down media outlets accused of inciting violence against Americans. First introduced in May 2009, Resolution 2278 is mainly aimed at Arabic language satellite TV networks like Al-Jazeera and Al-Manar. Its passage though House vote in December went largely unnoticed by the U.S. press, but it sent media watchers across the...

Me: Wait, what I just said didn't make sense. I just made an illogical leap!
Jennifer: But it made sense to you, right??
Me: Yeah!

English people DO love property shows!
englishpeoplelike: Why do the English like property shows? The English national lust for property shows is an intriguing lust indeed, one which is often explained by the English person’s latent desire to leave this God forsaken island. The voyeuristic nature of modern “plugged-in” societies is another common explanation. Or perhaps the English just get off on watching strangers engage in...

Crossing the redesigned Oxford Circus junction. The design stops traffic in all directions, allowing people to cross diagonally in an “X” as well as straight ahead. It can be crazy.

Blair: Gaza's great betrayer
Fair enough, but the international consensus is still flawed. A two-state solution would isolate the Palestinians even more, economically, politically, physically. Instead, there should be a single state in Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, with citizenship and equal rights for all inhabitants of all three territories. It’s the only practicable solution considering the realities on...
